One Week Out: Ride Day Details

Hey everyone,

I rode (and thanks to the crappy weather, drove) the 100 mile route.  All three routes are set for the Third Annual Gritty Goose, sponsored by our not-so-feathered, but awesome, friends at Trailhead Cycle.

Ride day details
The ride day is only a couple days away.  Looks like a low chance of rain, and the roads are mint.

Date: Saturday August 19, 2017
Registration: Opens at 7AM (see parking info below)
Distance: 100 miles / 70 miles / 50 miles You can select or change your distance when you check in
Start Time: 8AM rider meeting, 100/70/50 mile depart immediately following with neutral lead out until the gravel.

Route:
All routes are the same until just before mile 31. So if you change your mind and need to-do the 50 or 70 mile option, that is your best cutoff point.

If you have a GPS device, load up the GPX file from the linked routes. I have cue cards below for the 50 and 70.  100 miler still to be done.  For those doing the 50 or 70, please print them out and bring your own.  If not we will have some printed cue sheets at the start.

To download the GPX files follow the garmin.com link for your mileage and then in the right panel switch to the Send to your device tab and it will have options for download. Chose what is appropriate for your device.

Waiver:
You will have to sign a waiver when you register. We'll have these printed out

Registration:
Registration opens at 7 AM near the Pavilion at the MTB trail parking lot.
You will need to sign a waiver, get your number and a copy of the cue sheet if needed.

Location and parking:
We are starting at: Bertram Chain of Lakes Regional Park 1744 90th Street NE, Monticello, MN
Do not park in the actual MTB trail parking lot. We are parking on the gravel entrance road to not interfere with actual users of the park.

Bathroom:
There is a porta-potty near the MTB trail parking lot. Plenty of wooded areas as well.

Rest Stops:
For both the 70 & 50 mile routes, there is an unmanned stop at approximately 31 miles where the routes split. There will be a large cooler with water for sure and possibly other beverages and a few snacks will be available there. There are also options in French Lake, South Haven and Annandale for the 100 mile route, and in Maple Lake for all three routes.  Plan accordingly.  You are responsible for you.

Support:
This is officially an unsupported ride. Bring enough drink, food, & tools for the ride. Besides the unmanned stop and gas station stops, there isn't much else out there.  Maybe road kill and ditch water.

Finish:
We will be "collecting" finish times on a clip board near the finish. If you are concerned with your place, the sprint finish will be the utility pole at the intersection of 90th St. NE & Briarwood Ave NE right before finishing up the ride. Inform us of the placing when you finish as its on your honor.

After:
At the finish Trailhead Cycling will be providing some post ride food and non-alcoholic beverages
*note* that alcohol is not allowed in any Wright County Park, so officially the event will not be providing any.
Bring a chair though as there isn't many tables at Bertram.

Any questions, let me know

Thanks and looking forward to seeing everyone there!

  1. Dear Mr. Goose,

I am looking forward to the ride. Thanks for putting it on! I rode the 70 mile route earlier this year based on your GPS file. Lots of little hills! They add up.

FYI, there is an error on the cue sheet. At mile 53.2, the arrow correctly says to turn right, but the cue sheet says to turn left on 25th St. NW.

  2. Thanks to all who helped make this event happen. Although tortuous during the ride was still enjoyable. While fresh on my mind, I would like to suggest two changes to the 100m cue cards for the future. At mile 70.1, may want to mention 'left on peloquin' wasn't so obvious that 55 continues after left turn. At mile 70.4, it states 'right on 53rd/mowery/norton', would change to 'norton/53rd/mowery' as the turn is on 'norton'. Also, the fact that the printed copy cut off the last 5 row made it interesting after mile 32 and 87.
